Terrace BC fishing guide for Steelhead & Salmon Westcoast Fishing Adventures 20 years of hooking up ! Report for Jan 14 2016 – The weather has started to break with temps just above the freezing level this will slowly see the ice off the rivers. The Kalum river is closed Nov 15 to guiding until April 15 at which point most of the summer and winter steelhead will be spawning, I recommend leaving these fish un-harassed to lay their eggs for future generations. however the main stem Skeena will have great fishing for some monster steelhead as well as the spring chinook. March,April,May the Kitimat river is fishing well Large Steelhead start there migration into the Kitimat river in March & the Runs build from there on. April,May – You can expect to hook Steelhead & Chinook on the same day.
We look forward to seeing our guests that have reserved dates for 2016 with a veteran team of guides My self Gill McKean 20 years, Pierce Clegg 28 years retired owner of Babine Nor Lakes Now Steelhead Boot Camp Guide. The Skeena river Steelhead are now running. This is what we live for at Westcoast Fishing Adventures. It’s been a while since my last report so here we go. We kicked off our season with our famous Remote Spring Steelhead Camp, again another huge success! Guests from around the world enjoyed a wild river & bright chrome straight from the sea Steelhead by day, and the comforts of a professional camp by night.
As the season progressed, the fishing just got better. Our guests experienced some of the finest Steelhead fishing the world can offer. We are now moving on to the summer run Steelhead on the Skeean & Nass Systems. We will again be setting up our Wall tent camp giving all our guests a trip of a life time, by allowing them to be first on the water, thus giving them more opportunities to hook the fish of their dreams. While most visitors to the Skeena region will be competing for water on the Copper river and Kalum river, racing from trial head to mile maker 32, we will seek refuge in our remote tent camp with a hot cup of coffee and warm fire. Then when the time is right, head to the waters edge to start our day.
So with our sun glasses on and Bright Fish ahead, we move on to our summer season with More great guests and good times .
Photo below is our latest catch from just days ago..
We still have a few openings for our Remote Fall Steelhead Camp please feel free to contact us at any time to reserve your trip.
Hello all, the last few weeks have been very busy. The last two weeks of August were very wet to say the least, with the odd dry day mixed in. However this is what makes Terrace BC Skeena country so green, all this water supports an amazing water shed with all 5 speices of pacific salmon, as well as Rainbow Trout & Dolly Varden. We also had the opportunity to have the New Fly Fisher film crew here, Thomas Rosenbauer & Jeremy Kennedy to document this incredible fly fishery, while filming we encountered almost every fish that swims the mighty Skeena river. Steelhead, Coho salmon, Pink salmon, Dolly Varden; you name it, we caught it! I am looking forward to seeing it air on WFN world fishing network some time in the New Year. Stay tuned.
Our guide season is still in full swing, it is now prime time to book your Steelhead & Coho salmon fishing trip, we still have some open spots so if you have not booked and been sitting on the fence, wait no longer get er done.
We look forward to the next two months of great fishing On the Skeena River, Nass River, Kitimat River and most of their tributaries.
Chinook salmon fishing on the Skeena river through June, July, August is second to none the Kenai river in Alaska has all but dried up the last few years and the crowding is to much for most people to call a wilderness experience. Look to the Skeena the second largest river in BC to the mighty Fraser river the Skeena boasts Mountain scenery along its remote banks this 600KM river it is not hard to spread out giving our guests the ultimate experience.
Hello all We have been very busy with guiding this last week now I have a day off and guess what I am doing ? Going Fishing from Lakes to rivers Terrace BC has more water to offer than any other place on the planet. Fresh Steelhead, Sockeye, Chinook Salmon, are running hard now and the water is in great shape, we still have a few open spots in August if you or anyone you know would like to book a last minute trip give us a shout.
NOW BOOKING FOR 2012
The Skeena is producing some great fish there are good numbers moving through this day we hooked so many we lost count. I had a great time with the Jaffers family we look forward to seeing you all again very soon.
We are seeing good numbers of fish on the Kitimat river the water has been in great shape for the last 3 weeks average size of fish we have been catching on our fully guided fishing trips have been 27 to 30 pounds. Largest Chinook caught to date was 46 pounds landed by our guest from the UK he was blown away.
Our new Clackacraft drift boats are more comfortable than you can imagine the stability is second to none. 18 ft Clack Max is the only way to drift.
The Skeena river is shaping up with fish being caught at Ferry Island, The mouth of the Kalum river AKA Hog Line. The Kasiks has been a good place to wet a line on your way to Prince Rupert just below the highway bridge. Lakelese river bridge has been producing some fresh Chinook salmon as well using Jigs.
The Nass river is still very high and unfishable however find some clean water find some fresh chinook getting out of the mud, float fishing roe has been the most productive method also spoons are a safe bet in the right water, Cranberry or Kiteen rivers are starting to fish as well.
Kildala river on the Douglas Channel will see some fresh fish soon also a nice day trip chinook & fresh crab all in the same day.
If you haven’t booked your guided fishing trip dont delay you may just find yourself standing on the bank watching the boats go by.
Gordon Mckean & Myself Gill McKean look forward to hearing from you.
