Please find, attached, the Skeena Update to September 25th, 2011.  This file
contains the Tyee Test Fishery generated Skeena River summer steelhead index
to September 24th, including daily, cumulative and escapement estimate
figures, in addition to a summary table showing cumulative index data since
1998, overall and decadal averages, et cetera, the Upper Sustut River
Enumeration Weir steelhead counts to September 19th.  The Moricetown Canyon
(Bulkley-Morice) mark-recapture estimate figure to September 16th is
pending.  The estimate is ~= 13 K, and the project is currently challenged
by yet another high discharge/turbidity event.

The Tyee Test Index to the September 24th (now complete for 2011) is 147,
63% of last year’s index to the same date and 74% of the all years’ average
(this is only the eighth year that the Test Fishery has operated on the 24th
of September – average of the 8 years fished to this date = 198; range all
years: 33 (1957) to 264 (1998)).

Nine hundred and ninety steelhead have been captured to date at the Upper
Sustut River Enumeration Weir, above average to the same date (average all
years since 1994 = 567; range: 80 (2006) to 1106 (2009)).

As of August 24th, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans estimate the
Skeena sockeye aggregate escapement past Tyee to be 1.48 million.

Commercial fishing activity in the Skeena River approach waters is complete
for this season.  Commercial fishing activity to date can be found in the
attached: Commercial Openings 2011.

Hope you have enjoyed our fishing report for September 29th 2011

Fishing report Skeena river,Nass river,Kitimat river.Sept 29/2011

I just returned from a trip down south to the Thompson river, to shoot a fly fishing show with Mark Pendlington from sport fishing BC.  This time it was my turn to be shown a quality trout fishery, well guess what we missed the stone fly hatch by a week or so and the wind was blowing 80 km but we decided to launch the 18ft Clackacraft anyway, since I had just drove 15 hours.

What came of the trip? A few hook ups with some beautiful Thompson river rainbow trout, I also could not believe the sheer numbers of salmon Sockeye & Pinks swimming by us all day long. Then the real wind hit 80 km with out a doubt the worst I have seen, making it near impossible to row down the river.  There were waves at times all of 6ft high breaking! I said to Mark & Justin at one point “I feel like George Clooney from the perfect storm”. However, if I was not already impressed with the 18 ft Clack, we all were at the end of the day and we lived to tell about the ride, but never got the footage we were looking for.

The conditions in the Terrace area have been nothing more than tough to say the least.  On my trip home Sept 28 from Ashcroft, BC the Bulkley was blown as well as every other tributary clear down to the town of Terrace.

The Kalum river has been un-fishable since August and continues to be in the trees and over the banks in some areas.

Copper river is living up to its name Copper in color.

Kitimat river has been high & very dangerous for anyone with out rafting experience, as there are some new channels being cut daily as well as new log jams. We have been doing some lake fishing while we wait for the water to recede.

BC moose looking for steelhead too.

The Kasiks river has been high, but fishable off and on we are looking forward to the cooler temps October will bring as the rain will turn to snow, making the water drop and giving us one last shot at some Steelhead & Coho salmon on the Fly.

Fly fishing steelhead & coho salmon on the Skeena,Nass,Kitimat rivers out of Terrace BC

Hello all.

We have experienced a historic weather in the north west for the last to months making water levels high and un-fishable at times so when this happens we go fly fishing on the local lakes that are often over looked in the Terrace Skeena region. attached are some photos of the lake fishing that took place in the last couple weeks.

It is now Sept 15th and water conditions have returned to normal levels however the fish have either returned to the Ocean or made their way to higher ground where we the fishermen & women cannot bother them i expect the fresh fish to make there way back into the Skeena,Nass,Kitimat rivers in the coming days as things have returned to normal letting the fish sit in the happy places where we can swing flies and continue our recreation.

Making for tight lines & happy faces we still have some open dates for anyone looking to hook a trophy Salmon or Steelhead October is the month to get this done with much more stable conditions due to cooler temps.

We look forward to hearing form anyone with ? about the Skeena,Nass,Kitimat fisheries.

Fly fishing Salmon & Steelhead on the Skeena river Terrace BC Fishing Report.

Hello all, the last few weeks have been very busy. The last two weeks of August were very wet to say the least, with the odd dry day mixed in. However this is what makes Terrace BC Skeena country so green, all this water supports an amazing water shed with all 5 speices of pacific salmon, as well as Rainbow Trout & Dolly Varden. We also had the opportunity to have the New Fly Fisher film crew here, Thomas Rosenbauer & Jeremy Kennedy to document this incredible fly fishery, while filming we encountered almost every fish that swims the mighty Skeena river. Steelhead, Coho salmon, Pink salmon, Dolly Varden; you name it, we caught it!  I am looking forward to seeing it air on WFN world fishing network some time in the New Year. Stay tuned.

Our guide season is still in full swing, it is now prime time to book your Steelhead & Coho salmon fishing trip, we still have some open spots so if you have not booked and been sitting on the fence, wait no longer get er done.

We look forward to the next two months of great fishing On the Skeena River, Nass River, Kitimat River and most of their tributaries.

Tight Lines to all.

Season review to date.

With the Chinook season over and the pink salmon & sockeye salmon coming to an end we are seeing great returns of Coho Salmon & Steelhead so far it appears the Steelhead run is an average size however it is to early to tell what may be swimming in the Skeena any day, we have had some great days swinging flies on the Skeena hooking all speices during your guided fishing day the weather has been very cool and damp for August however the rivers have been in great shape with over cast skies giving anglers the best of both worlds.

We still have some available dates in September & October for Coho salmon & Steelhead Fly fishing for these incredible fish on one of our many pristine rivers is like nothing else you will experience we guide on 30 remote rivers in the Skeena,Kitimat,Nass regions.

We look forward to hearing from you.
